Which path should he choose?

image

The path of the warrior, the path of the scholar, or the path of the artist?

he should wander away and have a picnic while he thinks about what path to choose

Great idea! But where should he have the picnic?

image

Under the tree, or under the old fort?

By the sea, so he can enjoy the sound of the waves

A lovely choice!

image

Should he build a sandcastle to pass the time? Or perhaps go fishing?

Perhaps he could collect shells he finds interesting

Sounds fun!

image

Which shell should he pick up?

image

This one

That’s not a shell, it’s a tiny earpiece.

image

Should he listen to music? Or to the mysterious pre-recorded message?

He should give it back to the crab in the largest shell, they thought they had lost their wave-pod and are grateful he found it!

The crab wants to give a gift in return.

image

Should he accept the gift of power, or the gift of knowledge?

the gift of friendship :)

Friendship acquired!

image

Should they celebrate with pizza or ice cream?

The crab friend cannot eat either of those! Let’s split a nice seaweed salad instead. :)

So many options!

image

Should they get tossed salad, wiggly salad, or spiky salad?

Seasar salad

Nothing beats getting it straight from the source

image

Should they use scissors or claws to cut the seaweed?

What about that sword in the first panel?

The circle is complete.

image

Through choices, friendship, and salad, he found his way to the path of the warrior. But he won’t walk it alone.

Their path is just beginning, but this story is over.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

just go see an ob-gyn

Help me ob-gyn kenobi, you’re my only hope.

She needed more midwife-clorians.

I really hope everyone reblogging this followed the link and read the article, because it’s larger point is really good

“Reproductive health and childbirth is a crutch, and Lucas gets away with it because his audience accepts that these things are mysterious and cannot be intervened with the way that that the loss of limbs can be remedied with robot prosthetics, or the way Luke can be rescued from near-death on Hoth by being submerged in a bacta tank. Having babies is worse than being mauled by a wampa ice creature or being chopped up by lightsabers and falling into a river of lava. Lucas can write a world like that, and worse, the audience will accept it.

But uteruses aren’t made of malignant magic. Women’s bodies are real physical things that can be studied and understood and when necessary, cured. ”

IDK about everyone else, but I’ve actually been certified as a doula and childbirth educator and worked in women’s health media for most of a decade.

All points valid, but “Help me OB-GYN Kenobi” broke me.

And this is how you can tell a story was written by men because pre-natal healthcare never even occurred to the writer. Women’s insides are a mysterious and magical place that no man either can fathom, or just just not want to think about, so in stories like this they just handwave it away as” dying in childbirth”.

Help me, OB-GYN Kenobi.

I love how everyone’s like YES ALL POINTS VALID

But

“Help me OB-GYN Kenobi”

to be fair, it is a brilliantly executed pun

i-was-today-years-old-when:

i learned that actor Danny Trejo has the most on-screen deaths of anyone in Hollywood history, with 65. Followed by Christopher Lee (60), Lance Henriksen (51), Vincent Price (41), Dennis Hopper (41), Boris Karloff (41), and John Hurt (39). (x)

image

Yet poor Sean Bean is stuck with the reputation for dying in every movie. Unfair.

Give him time, he still has many years of dying yet to come.

Also there’s the question of density vs quantity. If you make a hundred movies and die in 50, and someone else makes 30 movies and dies in 30, the first one has died more, but the second one has died more often per movie.

It’s the DPM ratio that really counts, IMO.

65/402 16% Danny Trejo
60/282 21% Christopher Lee
51/259 20% Lance Henriksen
41/211 19% Vincent Price
41/205 20% Dennis Hopper
41/204 20% Boris Karloff
39/209 19% John Hurt
33/117 28% Sean Bean

I’m so proud of the statistical side of tumblr for coming through on this.

downside: going to have to include a picture of the Giza pyramids in the slides for the lecture
upside: i get to give people a crash course in why perspective matters in two frames, because

An image of the three pyramids (and three satellite pyramids) on the Giza plateau that looks exactly the same as you've always seen it: Menkaure's smaller pyramid and the three queen's pyramids are in the foreground, with Khafre's pyramid looming behind it. Behind Khafre's pyramid is Khufu's, a.k.a. the Great Pyramid, which looks slightly smaller than Khafre's in this image.ALT

followed by

Another photo of the pyramids of the Giza plateau. This time the pyramids are all shown from the same distance, so that the distance between them is clear as well as their relative size. It's now painfully obvious that Khufu's Great Pyramid on the far right is indeed the largest, with Khafre's in the centre only an increment smaller. Menkaure's pyramid, on the other hand, is less than half the height of Khafre's.ALT

is such a funny sequence

i find most people who haven’t seen it in person don’t know that cairo is RIGHT THERE

image

I loved these perspectives so I took some of my own when I was in Cairo and yeah, they’re literally just. Right there. Pass em on your way to work, nbd

image

No, y'all don’t even understand.

image

There is literally a Pizza Hut across the street from the pyramids.

That Pizza Hut among other things is why Egyptologists laugh their asses off when we see another piece of media where the protagonists get “lost in the desert near the pyramids”, because it’s like… just turn around my dudes you’re only a seven min walk away from the nearest fastfood shop

Yall don’t know how much I adore all of this

and by the way i’m not embarrassed about wanting to fuck peter hale because of all the crimes and violence. i’m embarrassed about wanting to fuck him because he enters rooms like he can hear thunderous applause and cheering from a live studio audience that isn’t there. also the goatee. also he seems like an only child even though he demonstrably isn’t. it’s exhausting wanting someone to take their pants off when they start every sentence with “well, well, well…” like shut up. where’s your little murder handkerchief.

schizopositivity:

Can people please stop comparing the stigma of their widely recognized mental illnesses to psychosis/schizophrenia? I understand there is stigma of other mental illnesses too, but that’s a lot more talked about and debunked. When I make posts about my illness and community specifically I don’t appreciate you derailing it to include your illness that doesn’t face the same stigma.

People looking at you weird isn’t the same as people filming you and posting it for laughs, people attacking you because they see you existing as a threat, and calling the police for showing symptoms you can’t control. You can’t convince me that the stigma around psychosis and schizophrenia doesn’t exist or is the same as the stigma of every other mental illness. I see it every day, I’ve experienced it myself, I don’t share my illness publicly because I fear for my own physical safety and humanity.

Here are some examples I have naturally come across on YouTube comments recently, people don’t usually fight against these and they are the norm: [TW: sanism, serial killer mention, demonic possession mention, forced medication, forced hospitalization]

We don’t commit most violent crimes in the world. We are not inherently violent. But society’s belief that this is true and that we should all be locked up for the rest of our life is still believed widely today. This is what I am advocating against. This is what I want changed in the world and at the very least in the neurodiversity community. We just want to be seen as humans, please do not make this about other mental illnesses.

PSA: Don’t use Open Office

I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh… look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn’t been updated in nine years, and there’s an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it’s fantastic.

Seriously, if you think that your choices are either “grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription” or “support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience”, I guarantee that it’s because you’re working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.

Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that’s really the only reason people are still recommending it. It’s kind of like if people were saying “hey, the iPhone 14 isn’t your only smart phone option!” but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that’s just newer and better – please don’t get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!
